To provide the best quality infrastructures appropriate to the needs of a leading centre of academic excellence which will support teaching and learning activities and to coordinate projects in line with the Federal Government procurement act of 2007.


Physical Planning and Municipal Services Directorate shall be a world-class works and services Department comparable to any other, engaged in provision of efficient physical development, works and services, using high quality facilities and multi-disciplinary approaches, to men and women of all races as well as generating new ideas and intellectual practices relevant to the needs of its immediate community, Nigeria and the world at large.


  1. Ensuring that all Development projects adhere strictly to the provision of the University Master Plan.
  2. Providing excellent project management and appropriate cost control for capital development through quality assurance.
  3. Developing a systematic approach to the collection, collation, storage, presentation and management of information resources related to the university infrastructures/facilities (A.B.U G.I.S);
  4. Providing conducive learning and social spaces.
  5. Developing new, and strengthening existing relationships with key strategic partners in both the public and private sectors.
  6. Ensuring that students and staff with peculiar needs have access to appropriate facilities and support services.
  7. Developing and implementing an integrated transport policy for the University.
  8. Promoting community access to sporting and recreational facilities.
  9. Developing tourism potentials of the University.
  10. Providing street naming, directional signs and branding on buildings.
  11. Producing building materials such as (Interlocking tile, Blocks, concrete kerbs, slabs and reinforce concrete pole) to improve university’s revenue base.
  12. Ensuring that all facilities are kept in efficient operational condition.
  13. Actualization of proposed Estate Training Institute to provide training of artisans and other relevant professionals and also improve revenue base for the university.


The Physical Planning & Municipal Services is part of Ahmadu Bello University and functions under a Board of Governors and a Director. Membership of the Board consists of:

  1. The Vice Chancellor as the Chairman.

  2. The Director of the Unit.

The functions of the Board may be summarized as laying down policy and providing general guidance and review of Units’s activities. The Director is the Administrative head of the directorate and he is deputized by a Deputy Director.
